We hope you will take the time to browse these pages and find out a little about us. Perhaps you might even be insired to join!
Youth SVDP is the youth section of the St Vincent De Paul Society. This organization was founded in Paris, on 23rd April 1883 by a young law student called Frederic Ozanam, who, along with some friends, sought to put the teachings of the church into practice, by relieving the sufferings of the poor.
Today, Youth SVDP in Scotland consists of groups of young people who operate in schools, colleges and church parishes.
The Society of St Vincent De Paul is an international Catholic organization of lay men and women who seek, in a spirit of justice and charity and by person to person involvement, to help those who are suffering. "No work of charity is foreign to the Society."
The patron of the society is St Vincent De Paul. who was born in France in 1581. He initially became a priest to escape from poverty but soon realised that his mission in life would be to bring the gospel to the poor of rural France. He founded and order of priests called "The Congregation of the Mission" , but commonly known as the Vincentians, to fulfill this purpose. Although the Society of St Vincent De Paul is an organisation founded by youth, the Society in Scotland is dominated by a much older age range. We are seeking to harness the energy and dynamism of young people by promting youth involvement in the Society throughout the country, in much the same way as the Society has done in England, Wales and Ireland.
